Bible Important? When the writer of the Book of Hebrews compared the Word of God to a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), he probably had in mind the Roman soldiers' famous weapon. Many opposing armies carried bigger swords, but the disciplined Roman army wielding the smaller, well-balanced blade usually won.
In The Bible None of us knew much about anything as the "Big Bang." It's just a theory. Someone will soon come up with something else and sell some books and get rich. However, we all have the next big "bang" ahead of us, and we need to be ready for it.
Ancient Bible References The seed were planted on Jan 25, 2005, by a botanist, Eaine Solowey, who was educated at UCLA....Other seed were sent off for radioactive carbon dating to the University of Zürich, Switzerland, and determined to be approximately 2000 years old.
What Does the Bible Mean Christians are called to live by another life -- the life of Christ within them. When the Lord Jesus controls a Christian, his grace and love draw some people and repel others. Lust-motivated people often perceive love-motivated people as a threat to the status quo.
Bible Contradictions In the “E” story God gives staff to Moses, in “P”-to Aaron. The “E” author blames Aaron for all the problems; the ”P” source shows Aaron as the main “hero”. The “E” story points out that Moses is more important (Numb 12:10,11 “…Aaron…and he said to Moses “Please, my Lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed”).
Apostles in the Bible What is so amazing, and why I went into so much detail here, is because Christian persecution didn't slow the growth of the Christian faith during the first few centuries after Christ. Even as its early leaders died horrible deaths, Christianity flourished throughout the Roman Empire.
Honor Your Father and Mother Years ago, I saw my friend Peter reprimand his 2-year-old son for continuing to throw soapsuds on a car after being told to stop. Peter calmly asked his son to hold out his hand. Following a gentle tap on the hand, his son began to cry. At first, I was confused because the light tap hardly warranted tears. Suddenly, I understood and said to Peter, "Your disapproval hurts worse than the tap on the hand." He nodded.
Literally True There were stories. Many Jewish-Christian mothers tried to liken his birth to the birth of Moses. However, as the Doctrine of Original Sin was being hammered out several hundred years after Jesus’ death, the concept of the Virgin Birth took on a new significance. If Original Sin were true fact, then no person could be born naturally without being in Sin. Jesus could not be in Sin if he were to save us the way the theology was proclaiming. Therefore, he wasn’t born “naturally.”
The Sole Guide To Salvation 6Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written." Then you will not take pride in one man over against another. (I Corinthians 4:6, ibid)
Seven Basic Bible Facts That the COMMISSION the Church, the Body of Christ, is to work under, is found in II Corinthians 5:14-21 and Ephesians 3:9. The Kingdom commission of Matthew 28:19-20 and Mark 16:15-18 does not belong to God's present grace purpose. The message of reconciliation has been committed to US, the Body of Christ.
Rich People Will Fade So great is our tendency to depend on wealth to the exclusion of God that Jesus said it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter into his kingdom. It's practically a miracle whenever wealthy people humble themselves to trust in the one who gave up the riches of heaven to die on a shameful cross to pay for our sins.
Understanding the Bible Be wary of absolute attitudes concerning areas of Scripture that are in question among trusted Bible scholars. It is necessary for each of us to remain teachable, open to the Holy Spirit giving us interpretation beyond what may have become (disputable) denominational doctrine.
A Trace of Satan In Luke 10:18, “[Jesus] said to them ‘ . . . And if it is Satan who drives out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then can his kingdom stand?’” This verse states that Satan has his own kingdom, which suggests the great power of Satan, much more at least than when he needed God’s permission to interfere with Job’s life.
Bible Authority Furthermore, Paul again and again says, "It is written," with the same construction as those found in the sayings of Jesus (see, for example, Acts 13:33; 23:5; Romans 1:17; 2:24; 3:4, 10; 4:17; 8:36; etc.). Paul also uses another introductory formula to a verse he quotes from the Old Testament with a similar meaning: "The Holy Spirit spoke... through Isaiah the prophet" (Acts 28:25).
